Mount Toubkal, standing at 4,167 metres in the High Atlas Mountains, is the highest peak in North Africa and one of the most rewarding treks on the continent, requiring no technical climbing experience, just good fitness and the right preparation.
The Classic Route
Most treks start in Imlil, the main trailhead village, and follow the Mizane valley up to the Toubkal Refuge at 3,207 metres, where trekkers spend the night before an early start for the summit.
How Long Does It Take?
A classic Toubkal ascent takes 2 days, though many trekkers choose 3 to 4 day itineraries to acclimatize more comfortably or combine the summit with mountain biking or a visit to nearby Berber villages.
Best Season
Toubkal can be trekked almost year-round. Summer (June-September) offers snow-free trails, while winter (December-May) requires crampons and an ice axe for the final summit slopes, which our guides can provide.
Fitness and Altitude
You do not need mountaineering experience, but a good level of general fitness makes the two summit days far more enjoyable, and our itineraries are built with a gradual ascent profile to help your body acclimatize.
Why Trek Toubkal With a Local Guide
All our Toubkal treks are led by certified local mountain guides who know every trail, monitor conditions closely, and carry the safety equipment necessary for a high mountain environment.
