Things to know before you climb Mount Toubkal

Mount Toubkal, standing at 4,167 metres, is the highest peak in North Africa and a bucket-list climb for trekkers around the world. Here is everything you should know before you go.

Fitness and Preparation

You do not need mountaineering experience, but a good level of general fitness will make the two summit days far more enjoyable. Regular walking, stair training, and a few practice hikes with a loaded backpack in the weeks before your trip are the best preparation.

Altitude

At 4,167m, mild altitude symptoms such as headache or shortness of breath are common. Our itineraries are designed with a gradual ascent profile and an overnight stay at the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m) to help your body acclimatize before the summit push.

What to Pack

Layered clothing, a warm hat and gloves, sturdy hiking boots, a headlamp for the pre-dawn summit start, and plenty of water are essential. In winter, crampons and an ice axe are required — we can provide rental gear.

Guides and Safety

All our Toubkal treks are led by certified local mountain guides who know every trail, monitor weather conditions closely, and carry the safety and first aid equipment necessary for a high mountain environment.
